Thesis- Hot or Not?
Have you taken a stab at writing a working thesis yet? Use this post to comment on your process. Write your topic and your working thesis. Ask questions of other readers and get some feedback regarding your points and direction. Remember SUBJECT + DIRECTION + THREE REASONS= THESIS.
I haven’t written down my thesis yet, but I have been thinking about it. I don’t really think of subject+direction+three reasons. I took the topic I chose and asked myself “Why?” for everything associated with the topic being in the story. This led me in a direction where I could further break down the answer to “Why” into three reasons that would answer it.
Like Chris, I don’t think of a thesis as those three things. My topic of Frankenstein doesn’t really allow me to come up with a paper that contains three reasons and explanations for my thesis. I decided to write about the creation of life in Frankenstein and its effects on human nature. My thesis is something along the lines of this: “Although Shelley illustrates that advanced technology will cause harm unto the human nature, modern technology actually improves the quality of life that people live when not used in excess as in Frankenstein.”
The thesis is probably the most difficult part about the paper, because you have to have a starting place to know where you are going to finish. Personally, I think the subject, direction, three reasons format is lame because I do not like to be constricted and writers are writers, not robots. Choosing a good topic is the most important part of having a mind stirring thesis.
I am not sure if you will like my thesis because of the organization of it. It includes the subject, direction,…, but the true subject of the thesis is mention at the end of the thesis. I tried rewriting it to change that but it is not very powerful.
Color Sybolism is Sir Gawain. There are so many colors in the story that I have no idea where to start. It is going to be hard to find 7 good sources that reflect colors in the story. I know what the color green stands for and how to express it, but I don’t see how i can use the other colors to write the paper.
I first had to to research on my topic to see what is out there so then i could create a thesis for a 6 page paper. I have had a really hard time in actually understanding my topic and being able to utilize the information i have found into material for my paper. I think i have my thesis, but we’ll see tomorrow in class!
Ahhhh. well i hate researh papers, and ill agree with everyone else that the thesis is the hardest part of the entire process. I would rather not share my thesis because I want to discuss it with you first. I do have a quesiton though. Are we only allowed to have three points? I am doing Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Codes and Values….i have more than three points that I can do.
I have my thesis written down now becasue it is due today. But I am not so sure that it exactly follows my topic. It is taking a stand for sure, but I am not sure if that is what you wanted my stand to be like and it is from the point of view that you would have liked. I am worried because my paper doesn’t exactly have just three points or three points. My topic is The Seven Deadly Sins and and I am taking the stand that although Dante’s Inferno says that sin exists in levels, the Bible says that all sin is equal and so the seven must be equal to all other sin. I am still not quite sure where I am headed but I have a pretty good idea.
I think my thesis is pretty good but at the same time it could be totally miz. I feel like I have the three parts of it that you want but I’m not you Mrs. Caldwell and I don’t grade anything. I still think it has some potential to shift around a little bit as I get more and more info but what I have now is pretty close to how my paper will be.
I’m doing biblical allusions in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. I have to admit, the thesis was pretty hard to write because it’s hard to categorize all my information into 3 points. I’m not sure if I’m “taking a stand” or not, but I feel like after I do a lot more research and get all my information organized, it will be more clear.
